I am a full-time guide on the Lower Laguna Madre out of South Padre Island, Texas. My Salos reels get used daily by myself and clients whose fishing skills vary from beginner to advanced. This reel performs as good as or better than its higher priced competitors day in and day out.
The interior components are superior to anything in the price point. The heavier gauge wire for the bail is both durable and sensitive when reeled to click closed. The reeling action is balanced and light. Line comes off smoothly on every cast with almost non-existent wind loop issues (unlike the competition) . Even small things are done right on this reel like the line keeper being metal instead of cheap plastic. The drag is strong on the upper end but has minimal inertia required to start it as a fish runs and begins to surge pressure onto the line. This is required by experienced anglers but a must for novice anglers who are just learning to fight larger fish. Long story short, I had a long-term relationship with another reel company and left them to purposely partner with Florida Fishing Products because I had purchased and field tested several of their reels on my own to ensure that the quality was something that I was confident I could put in my clients' hands and know that it would perform like I wanted them to. Don't believe me, book a trip and come try one for yourself!
